The Confederate flag has been removed from South Carolina capitol grounds.
FOX News Radio's Eben Brown reports:
The South Carolina Highway Patrol Honor Guard, in full dress complete with campaign hats marched proudly and deliberately before gently lowering that Confederate battle flag, pulling it taught and folding it reverently.
The thousands gathered outside the Statehouse kept the peace, though some in the crowd were waving Confederate flags of varying sizes.
In the coming days the flagpole itself will be taken down. The monument to Confederate soldiers however, will stay.
