South Carolina lawmakers are debating if they should remove a Confederate battle flag from the grounds of state capitol in Columbia. Governor Nikki Haley asked that it be removed... after the massacre at an African American church in Charleston last month. The man allegedly behind those killings is believed to be a racist... and was photographed waving a Confederate flag.

FOX News Radio's Eben Brown reports.

South Carolina's Senate is leaning towards a final vote to move a Confederate battle flag off state house grounds and into a museum. But, the votes haven't gone without debate...

(Martin) "The flag stands for, is really, for the 1960's, as much as it is for the 1860's."

Republican State Senator Larry Martin. His Republican colleague Tom Davis:

(Davis) "I'm embarrassed to say, that I never fully realized just how offensive the Confederate battle flag was."

South Carolina's House of Representatives is also set to debate the issue. Two-thirds majority of both chambers are needed to move to the flag.
