Airline Antitrust Probe
The Justice Department is investigating whether airlines are conspiring to keep prices higher.
FOX News Radio’s Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington:
Jammed packed planes and sky-high ticket prices. What’s going on? The Justice Department is looking into whether major airlines have colluded to limit available seats to keep airfares high. New York Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer suspects dirty tricks.
(Schumer) ”When profits go up that high, and prices, particularly fuel goes down, and the consumer sees no benefit, something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”
The trade group Airlines for America denies price scheming — saying the airlines compete vigorously everyday, and that consumers set the prices.
