The first Speaker of the House to resign amid scandal has died.
FOX News Radio's Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill.
Jim Wright spent more than three decades in Congress. The Texas Democrat elevated to Speaker of the House in the late 1980's... just two years later he was forced to step down... after being charged by the House Ethics Committee with dozens of violations.
(Wright) "I have had the great privilege of being a member of this institution, the people's house."
Wright was accused of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gifts and evading limits on outside earnings by self publishing a book.
Wright did win bipartisan praise for his oratory skills. He was in the Presidential motorcade when President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
