Percy Sledge, Singer of “When A Man Loves A Woman” Dies
A legendary soul singer has died.
FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports.
Percy Sledge sang one of the all-time classics…
His first single was also Atlantic’s first gold record. A No. 1 hit in 1966 propelling Sledge from a hospital worker, who sang part-time, into a soulful star.
He never topped the charts again, but, three more songs made the top 20 including,”Warm and Tender Love.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer toured the world for decades, but in 1994, Sledge pleaded guilty to tax evasion on some of those earnings.
But, he kept on performing, even last year after liver cancer surgery.
Sledge was 73, when he died in Baton Rouge early Tuesday.
