The California televangelist who founded the world-famous Crystal Cathedral has died. He was 88.

FOX News Radio's Tonya J. Powers has more:

Dr. Robert H. Schuller started preaching in 1955 at a drive-in theater near Disneyland, which he rented for $10 a week.

It was years before he began his TV ministry called the "Hour of Power" in 1970.

(Schuller) "I'd rather attempt to do something great and fail, than attempt to do nothing and succeed."

He built the church that became known as the Crystal Cathedral in 1980 in Orange County, California.

(Schuller) "I rang doorbells, 3,000 plus doorbells, the first 12 months I was here... Just looking for non-church people."

That audio from an interview he gave to the Archive of American Television...

(Schuller) "My name is Robert Schuller, and I'm one of the ministers here...Still..."

Schuller was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2013 and was in poor health for several months, receiving care at a nursing facility.
