The top Democrat in the Senate, Minority Leader Harry Reid, is not running for re-election.

FOX News Radio's Jared Halpern has more from Capitol Hill:

In a polished YouTube video, the Nevada Democrat says he will not seek re-election next year -- a surprise announcement from the former Senate Majority Leader.

(Reid) "The decision that I have made has absolutely nothing to do with my injury, it has nothing to do with being Minority Leader and it certainly has nothing to do with my ability to be re-elected."

Reid missed the first few weeks of this Congress, badly hurt during an exercise accident on New Year's Day, causing vision loss.

Still, Reid tells his friend, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, not to be too elated... He'll continue to lead the Democrats for 22 more months.
