A Battle Of The Brews In Washington?

A beer battle brewing on Capitol Hill… over taxes.

Some small craft brewers have gotten so popular and wealthy, they’ve hired lobbyists to get them a tax break. But, the larger brewers are represented by the Beer Institute, which says they don’t mind a tax cut for small brewers, but they want to see a tax rate cut for all beer producers.

Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Ben Cardin have teamed up to produce the Small Brew Act in the Senate. It’d cut taxes on craft brewers, so they can expand production. The act would roll back a federal tax that was imposed on brewers in the 19th century, as a way to pay for the Civil War.
