FOX News Radio's Jared Halpern has more:
At least 36 people are dead, dozens more hurt, after a stampede along Shanghai's historic waterfront.
It's the worst disaster to hit that showcase city in years.
Popular Chen Yi Square often fills during major events. Revelers say New Year's Eve celebrations had the area so packed people couldn't move. One official says victims suffocated, others victims were bruised on the forehead, neck and mouth.
Last week, the Shanghai Daily reported a popular countdown event that has attracted 300,000 people was cancelled because of crowd control concerns.
