President Obama will ring in the new year on vacation in Hawaii, but when he returns to D.C. -- he'll be dealing with a Republican-led Congress.

FOX News Radio's Jared Halpern has more from Washington.

With Republicans controlling the House and Senate next year, President Obama predicts he'll get more use out his veto pen.

(President Obama) "I'm gonna defend gains that we've made in health care. I'm gonna defend gains we've made in environment and clean air and clean water."

In an interview conducted with NPR, the president did point to areas he thinks he'll find common ground with Republican leadership, including tax reform and global trade deals.

Still, Republicans have promised to test the president on the Keystone oil pipeline and the Affordable Care Act.
