Jail terms and lashes – that’s what happens in Iran if you videotape yourself dancing to Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy.”

FOX News Radio’s Emily Wither explains from our Middle East Bureau:

The hit song “Happy,” by Pharrell Williams sparked imitations of people dancing all over the world.

But in Iran, the authorities weren’t happy at all, after six young men and women made their own version back in May.

They were arrested along with their video director and have now been sentenced to suspended jail terms of six months and 91 lashes each for ignoring Islamic norms.

Their lawyer says they’ll only serve the sentences if they commit crimes in the next three years.

Hard-liners have accused moderate President Hassan Rouhani of failing to stop the spread of what they call “decadent” Western culture in the country.
