As the Iraqi government struggles to push back against Islamic militants, the U.S. government says it is committed to helping security forces there.
Fox News Radio's Rachel Sutherland reports from Washington.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says the airstrikes are working.
(Hagel) "They have been very effective from all the reports that we've received."
But the Obama Administration is doing something unusual. In a policy reversal, the U.S. government is providing weapons to Kurdish forces, who are starting to make gains against Islamic militants in Iraq. U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, wouldn't say which U.S. agency is providing the arms or what weapons are being sent.
