‘Selfie’, ‘Yooper’ Among Words Added to Merriam-Webster Dictionary

    Dictionary New Words

There are new words to be found in the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. How many of them do you use?

FOX News Radio’s Eben Brown reports:

New for this year’s Merriam-Webster dictionary:

(Music) ”…Let me take a selfie.”

The ego photos we take. We tweet them with ‘hashtags’.

(Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake) “Hey check it out, I brought you some cookies, hashtag home-made, hashtag oatmeal raisin, hashtag ‘show me the cookie’.” // “Ha-ha”// “Sweet.”

Our Twitter friends are ‘tweeps’ — also new in the dictionary. Unless they’re not our tweeps anymore…

    (Commercial) ”I unfriend you.”

    And there’s this one?

    (Man) ”Yooper!”

What people from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula call themselves. Steve Parks lead the charge to get it recognized…

(Parks) “It’s an identity that we share. We’re really different. And we’re proud of it.”
