The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is still under fire from the Fast and Furious operation, which allowed hundreds of guns to be sold and carried into Mexico as part of an anti-trafficking sting. The guns were lost. And now a new report that shows the agency is losing guns stateside as well, at an alarming rate.

FOX News Radio’s Jeff Monosso has the story from Washington DC:

Internal records obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show 45 instances where ATF officers forgot or lost their guns between 2009 and 2012. In one case– an Illinois agent placed his handgun on top of his car and drove away. The gun was later found. In another incident, two boys in Iowa reportedly found an ATF gun in a storm drain. The newspaper also notes that a machine gun was stolen during an undercover operation in Milwaukee. The ATF says it is the responsibility of agents to secure their guns.
