A call to action from President Obama... delivering his fifth State of the Union address.
FOX News Radio's Jared Halpern had a bird's eye view in the House of Representatives chamber:
The President tells Congress he has a set of concrete, practical proposals to strengthen the middle class.
(President Obama) "But America does not stand still and neither will I. So wherever and whenever I can take steps without legislation to expand opportunity for more American families, that's what I'm gonna do."
That includes a minimum wage hike for federal contractors...
(President Obama) "Of course to reach millions more, Congress does need to get on board."
The President urging Congress, as he's done in States of the Union past, to end subsidies for oil companies...
(President Obama) "That don't need it, so we can invest more in fuels of the future that do."
Washington State Republican Cathy McMorris Rodgers, delivering her party's response, saying too many Americans are living pay check to paycheck.
(McMorris Rodgers) "We have solutions to help you take home more of your pay, through lower taxes, cheaper energy costs and affordable healthcare."
She too talks about an inequality gap.
(McMorris Rodgers) "But the real gap we face today is one of opportunity inequality."
