Son: North Korea Detains Elderly U.S. Korean War Veteran
North Korea is apparently holding an American veteran of the Korean War for unknown reasons after being removed from a plane in October.
FOX News Radio’s Alastair Wanklyn has the story:
Eighty-five year-old Merrill Newman from Palo Alto, California, seized in North Korea, his son says, as he wrapped up a tourist visit there. U.S. Envoy Glyn Davies today calling on North Korea:
Davies: “To resolve the issue and to allow our citizens to go free.”
The other known detainee is Kenneth Bae, held for more than a year. There’s no word why North Korea arrested Merrill Newman. But a fellow tourist says the Korean War vet had some kind of “difficult discussion” with officials there. Newman’s son says he needs medication — which the family has sent.
