Brian on the looming government shutdown: “The Republicans ham-handedly said ‘let’s just defund the whole thing’… In my mind, the Republicans should have done this tactically. Let’s go for six things, try to get four things, and then fund the government.”

HOUR ONE

Commander of Air Force Special Command GENERAL WILLIAM SHELTON shed his expertise on whether the threat from Iran has dissipated. General Shelton, an astrophysicist, also weighed in on our space program.  “Brian, we are in the middle of a transformation in our satellite programs,” he exclaimed, “We’re very concerned about the threats in space… We’re looking at how we become much more resilient with our capability in space and we’re going through that study effort right now.” Gen. Shelton went onto say that we will stay where we are with our space program through the mid 2020s.  “Beyond that, I think you’ll see us look at some very different capabilities.”

MARC BUONICONTI, president of both The Miami Project and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis and JIM KELLY, hall of fame quarterback, talked about the upcoming 2013 Annual Great Sports Legends Dinner.  Jim said that one thing individuals experience when attending these dinners is the passion that Marc and his father have for this issue.  “The passion that Marc and his father have to make sure they make a difference, that’s what they’ve done for 25 years,” Kelly explained. HOUR TWO

FOX’s Chief White House Correspondent ED HENRY weighed in on the looming government shut down.  Henry said the only way both sides could come to a peace offering would be to have a one week delay, where John Boehner would not “blink and give in on the whole health care issue.”

Brian had a football follow-up simulcast with STUART VARNEY on Varney & Company.  Brian won Friday’s “NFL Picks of the Week,” picking 2 out of 3 teams correctly.  Brian chose the Colts to win over the Jaguars and the Titans to win over the Jets, whereas Stuart only chose the Redskins to win over the Raiders.

HOUR THREE

BRET BAIER, anchor of Special Report with Bret Baier, talked to Brian about the looming government shutdown. Baier said that currently, a number of short-term continuing resolutions are being thrown out to prevent a shutdown; but so far, every indication is they are not going to accept that.
