Antibiotic Overuse

    Antibiotic

Federal health officials say you’re likely using antibiotics too frequently, and that means they likely won’t be effective when you need them most.

FOX News Radio’s Eben Brown reports:

The Centers for Disease Control say doctors prescribe antibiotics too often…

(Frieden) “And now we’re seeing a situation where some bacteria have resistance to all, or virtually all, antibiotics.”

Director Thomas Frieden says doctors are giving patients strong antibiotics for minor infections, or for viral infections that antibiotics can’t help, such as the cold.

(Frieden) “And it isn’t always the case that ‘if you give me more pills it’s going to better for me’. Sometimes it’s important to just take time.”
