A government study says millions of Americans take prescription medication to get enough sleep.

FOX News Radio’s Pam Puso reports:

When the alarm goes off… Are you still tired?

According to a government study, nearly nine million adults are popping prescription pills to get enough shut-eye and most of them are white, female and fifty years of age or older. In addition, experts believe millions more are trying over-the-counter options. Findings based on interviews with about 17,000 adults between 2005 and 2010 by the The Centers for Disease Control .

For adults the recommended amount of sleep is seven to nine hours. And previous research shows at least a third of adults get less than that.
