New Virus MERS Spreading Easily

    MERS

Doctors are learning more about a spreading disease that is still largely a mystery.

FOX News Radio’s Ron Flatter reports:

Thirty-eight people have died as a result of MERS, the Middle East respiratory syndrome. If the name reminds you of SARS, the severe-acute respiratory syndrome, it’s only appropriate.

Doctors point to some obvious similarities. It spreads easily between people. The New England Journal of Medicine even says it spreads easily within hospitals, maybe from sneezes and coughs. It also says this disease appears more lethal. With a fatality rate in the current, Saudi outbreak being nearly two out of every three cases.

As for the prime carrier, doctors are leaning toward camels or goats or perhaps infected bats contaminating food in the Middle East.
