A Nickel Worth Millions
It’s one expensive nickel. A rare, century-old coin has sold for big bucks at auction.
FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:
It’s only a nickel, but it’s worth a fortune.
A rare 1913 Liberty Head Nickel sold at auction in Illinois Thursday night for more than $3.1 million.
It wasn’t even supposed to exist. One of just five believed illegally made by a rogue mint worker. For a long time the family that sold it didn’t even think the nickel was real because the owner died in a car wreck in 1962 on his way to a coin show, and then an appraiser declared it a fake.
It was authenticated ten years ago and bought by two men from Kentucky and Florida in a partnership.
