FBI Busts Alleged Plot To Rig NYC Mayoral Race
Did politicians try to buy a Democrat a spot as the Republican nominee in the mayoral race in the country’s biggest city? Authorities say yes, arresting several politicians on Tuesday.
FOX News Radio’s Jeff Monosso reports from New York:
New York State Senator Democrat Malcolm Smith and New York City Council member Republican Dan Halloran arrested in an FBI sting that accuses the men of bribery, extortion and fraud in an alleged plot to buy to Democrat a spot on the GOP ballot in the upcoming New York City mayor’s race.
(Bharara) “The charges we unveiled today demonstrate, once again, that a ‘Show Me the Money’ culture seems to pervade every level of New York government.”
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara saying evidence is overwhelming. Four others are also accused, but Smith, in a statement, says he’ll be vindicated of the charges.
