Olive oil is considered a staple for healthy cooking, but new research suggests the scent alone can help you lose weight.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon explains in today’s “Housecall for Health”:

The health benefits of olive oil have been known for years, but now new research suggests the smell of olive oil may help you lose weight.  A team at the German Research Center for Food Chemistry found exposing an aromatic extract of the oil to food improved blood sugar response, and ultimately led to eating less calories.

Study participants who ate food without the extract consumed nearly 200 more calories per day than the group with the extract.
