The legacy of one of history’s most famous bards is getting a bit of a re-write.

We all know William Shakespeare the playwright, but what about Shakespeare the tax cheat? Academic researchers combing through historical archives, uncovering the new details of Shakespeare’s parallel life as a merchant and property owner.
He was pursued for tax evasion and in 1598, prosecuted for hoarding grain during a time of shortage. Academics argue, to fully understand Shakespeare, we must also know of his business-savvy side; one researcher noting those aspects of his life often overlooked because of Shakespeare’s creative genius.
