They were the pride of the Steubenville High School football team. Partly the reason some say, the community protected them. But Trent Mays and Ma’Lik Richmond are found guilty of raping a drunken 16-year-old girl last summer. They’re now off to juvenile detention.

(Judge Thomas Lipps) “For a minimum period of one year a maximum period until you’re 21.”

The teens later broke down and apologized. Cell pictures and videos and social media posts helped lead to the verdict. The judge urging parents to talk about the dangers of drinking and social media.

State prosecutors, meantime, are looking into whether others should be charged in the case.
