Titanic Violin ID’d, Expected to Be Sold

    Titanic Violin

A piece of history that has a famous place in disaster lore could be hitting the auction block soon.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig tells us what it is:

    Wallace Hartley

    (“Nearer, My God, To Thee”)

It’s the violin bandmaster Wallace Hartley played “Nearer, My God, To Thee” on as the Titanic sank.  Cracked and damaged by saltwater, the Rosewood violin was found in a leather case strapped to Harley’s body 10 days after the legendary liner went down in the North Atlantic.

It took seven years to confirm its authenticity, but the firm that did that work says it’s the most important – and probably the most valuable – Titanic artifact ever recovered, and they expect it to go to auction in the near future, valued in the six-figure range.
