Coast Guard Rescues 14 From Tall Ship Off NC
UPDATE: The Coast Guard has found one of the two missing crew members unresponsive in the waters off the NC coast. The ship’s captain remains missing.
The Coast Guard has rescued 14 crew members from a tall ship caught in Hurricane Sandy off the coast of North Carolina. Two crew members are still missing.
FOX News Radio’s Courtney Kealy reports:
Two crew members are still missing and 14 have been rescued with treacherous conditions including winds of 40 miles per hour and 18 foot seas.
The crew boarded two 25 foot lifeboats wearing life jackets and survival gear after the HMS Bounty a three-mast tall ship, a replica of the ship in the 1960 film ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’, started taking on water.
It was reportedly 160 miles from the hurricane’s center, trying to sail to Florida.
