Candidates Pick Up Newspaper Endorsements

Campaign advisers and stand-ins took to the Sunday political shows with both sides claiming the lead in the race for newspaper endorsements.

FOX News Radio’s Steve Taylor reports from Washington:

The Des Moines Register in Iowa calls Mitt Romney the stronger candidate.  Former Speaker Newt Gingrich says that newspaper had not endorsed a Republican Presidential candidate in 40 years.

(Gingrich) “They were for Obama four years ago.  They’ve switched.”

President Obama’s Deputy Campaign Manager, Stephanie Cutter, says many other papers are endorsing the President.

(Cutter) “The Miami Herald, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the New York Times, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Toledo Blade, the Youngstown Vindicator.  I could go on.”

Cutter and Gingrich on ABC’s “This Week.”
