Kenseth Avoids Final Lap Wreck, Wins at Talladega

NASCAR’s Sprint Cup race at Talladega ended with a bang Sunday, the final race order being determined not by who was pushing for the lead, but by who managed to avoid a massive pile-up.

FOX News Radio’s recaps the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500:

Tony Stewart takes responsibility for the pile-up, telling ESPN he was just trying to win.

(Stewart) “I just screwed up.  I turned down across, I think it was Michael, and crashed the whole field.  It was my fault, blocking to try to stay where I was at, so I take 100% of the blame.”

Stewart getting tangled with Michael Waltrip before going airborne sideways, being pushed on top of three different cars during the wreck.  He finishes 22nd and drops to seventh in the Chase.

Matt Kenseth is still last among Chase drivers, despite his win.  Brad Keselowski stretches his lead over Jimmie Johnson at the top to 14 points.  Jeff Gordon’s second-place finish, good for a four-place jump in the standings.  He’s now sixth, but 42 points back.
