CA Hospital Settles “English Only” Lawsuit
A legal victory for dozens of nurses in California, where a medical center will be shelling out a large sum of money and changing its “English only” language policy as part of a settlement of a civil rights lawsuit.
FOX News Radio’s Pat O’Neill has more:
Nearly 70 Filipino nurses and other hospital workers will divide the settlement of almost $1 million. They had accused the Delano Regional Medical Center, near Bakersfield, of banning them from speaking Tagalog and other Filipino languages, while letting others speak in their languages and even encouraging other staff members to report them.
The medical center had claimed its English-only policy was essential to patient care. Now, it’s agreed to develop better ways to handle harassment and discrimination complaints.
