College Football Player Breaks Neck on Tackle

Doctors say it could be days, even weeks, before they know whether a Tulane University football player is paralyzed following an on-field hit.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has details:

It was a crunching hit.  Tulane safety Devon Walker, going in for the hit right before halftime against Tulsa on FOX Sports Net, making helmet-to-helmet contact with a teammate, breaking his neck.

Walker remains in stable condition, in traction to reduce swelling before surgery to stabilize the spine fracture.  Trainers, starting CPR on the field after having trouble getting vital signs during their initial assessment.  Officials say Walker’s heart didn’t actually stop and his life was likely never in danger.

Tulane’s team doctor says the senior has some feeling in his arms and legs.
