Housecall for Health: Researchers Find AIDS-Like Disease
Researchers have discovered a new disease in the U.S. and Asia that mimics the symptoms and effects of AIDS, damaging the immune system of patients, who don’t actually test positive for AIDS.
FOX’s Colleen Cappon has details in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
Scientists have discovered a new disease that has left people in Asia and the U.S. with AIDS-like symptoms, but with no signs of HIV. The mysterious condition leaves patient’s immune systems damaged, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases doesn’t know the cause, but says, unlike AIDS, it isn’t contagious.
The New England Journal of Medicine is calling it Adult-Onset Immunodeficiency Syndrome because it develops after age 50.
