Housecall for Health: New Diet Drug

A new drug tested in mice for weight loss is working, and may be the way to keep the pounds off.

Scientists say there may be another new diet drug on the horizon. U.S. researchers are testing the drug on mice, and so far results show weight loss, an increased metabolism, and reduced insulin resistance. It works by increasing the body’s sensitivity to leptin, a hormone that suppresses appetite. Testing in humans will begin after passing safety tests from the National Institutes of Health.
