John Edwards Speaks After Judge Declares Mistrial [VIDEO]
A mistrial has been declared in John Edwards’ campaign finance trial after the jury found the former Senator and Presidential candidate not guilty on one of six counts against him, but couldn’t come to an agreement on the remaining five.
FOX’s Jonathan Serrie reports from outside the Federal courthouse in Greensboro, NC:
Edwards was accused of masterminding a plan to use money from wealthy donors to hide his pregnant mistress during his White House run in 2008.
(Edwards) “While I do not believe I did anything illegal, or ever thought I was doing anything illegal, I did an awful, awful lot that was wrong. And there is no one else responsible for my sins.”
After jurors informed the judge they could only reach a verdict on Count 3, she sent them back in the jury room to continue deliberations. But 45 minutes later, they sent the judge a note saying continued talks would not change their minds, and they would not be able to reach consensus on the other five counts.

The jury found Edwards not guilty on Count 3 of the indictment, which alleged that Edwards accepted campaign donations in excess of Federal limits from wealthy heiress Rachel “Bunny” Mellon in 2008. The charge carried a maximum of five years in prison if he had been convicted.
The partial verdict and subsequent mistrial come after nine days of deliberations in the case.
