Adults With Autism Struggle Post-School
A new study published online Monday in Pediatrics showing how tough it can be for adults living with autism.
FOX News Radio’s Lisa Lacerra reports:
The study, based on data from 2007 through 2008 finds that within two years of leaving high school more than half of those with autism had no job experience, college, or technical school education. Things did improve as they got older to about one in three.
Those figures compare with 26%of mentally disabled young adults 7% of those with speech and language problems and 3% of those with learning disabilities.
Government data shows one-in-88 kids has autism, and there’s evidence that rate is rising. Within the next 10 years more than 500,000 kids with autism will reach adulthood.
