It never made it into a terrorist's underwear on board a plane, a newer upgraded bomb. The FBI's now studying it after the plot was thwarted in Yemen.

FOX News Radio's Courtney Kealy reports:

The unexploded bomb seized in a covert CIA operation and now in the FBI's custody reportedly had no metal and a new sophisticated detonation mechanism.

Jan Schakowsky, a Democrat from Illinois, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, says the foiled plot shows American intelligence has improved.

(Schakowsky) "I think our ability now to connect the dots which was I think the major failure identified at 9/11 is so much better now."

The identity and location of the bomber remains unclear.
