The son of a racing legend, now retired, just can’t seem to shake the racing bug. Now, he’s lucky to avoid jail time after doing it illegally…and drunk.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig reports:
Two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser, Jr., pleading guilty to DWI and racing in a New Mexico court. The Motorsports Hall of Famer was arrested near Albuquerque in September, where he admitted to sheriff’s deputies wearing belt recorders that he had been racing at more than 100mph.
(Unser, Jr.) “He was faster than I was, and you caught the slower man.”
The deputy gave Unser a field sobriety test.
(Deputy//Unser, Jr.) “Do you have any questions about the test?//Can I hold your flashlight?//No, you can’t hold my flashlight, sir.”
He failed, with a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. The guilty plea carried a sentence of 90 days in jail, but the judge, choosing to defer that in favor of 364 days of supervised probation.
