Housecall for Health: Labor Taking Longer Than Ever
With new technology and research, people breeze through many tasks faster than ever before. There’s one thing that seems to buck the trend, however: childbirth.
FOX’s Colleen Cappon reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
Advances in technology have put the world at a faster pace than 50 years ago, except when it comes to childbirth. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health say that, compared to the 1960’s, women now spend 2-3 hours longer in labor.
Along with a higher average age and weight of pregnant moms, scientists believe longer labor could be due to the increase in epidural pain relief, which is far more common than it was 50 years ago.
