Study: Alcohol Helps Heart Attack Victims Live Longer

A new study suggests moderate drinking could help men recovering from a heart attack.

FOX News Radio’s Dave Anthony reports:

One or two drinks a day could help keep men who’ve suffered a heart attack alive longer.  That’s in new research in the European Heart Journal.

The lead doctor in the study at the Harvard Medical School found, over a 20-year period, men who drank wine, beer or hard liquor had a 42% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease than heart attack victims who did not drink – and a 14% less chance of death by any cause.  However…

    (Seigel) “Alcohol is a toxin.”

…So Dr. Mark Seigel, with the FOX Medical A-Team, says despite the research…

(Seigel) “You can never tell a patient with heart disease that they should drink alcohol.  That’s not sound medical advice.”
