U.S. Soccer Eliminated From Olympics Before They Ever Begin
We’re still months away from the Summer Olympic Games in London, but the U.S. is already out of the competition in one of the world’s most popular sports.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has details:
Two teams will represent North and Central America in men’s soccer, and the U.S. is not one of them. A 3-3 tie with El Salvador Monday night means the U.S. is knocked out of the qualification tournament for just the second time since 1976.
(Porter) “I’m sorry for the fans, I’m sorry for U.S. Soccer that we…we didn’t get the job done.”
…Coach Caleb Porter. After blowing out Cuba in the tournament opener, the Americans were undone by goalkeeping errors in a loss to Canada and against El Salvador, a position that is normally one of the team’s biggest strengths.
(Porter) “These guys have long careers ahead of them, and I know they’re gonna do great things in the future.”
