Securing America: Afghanistan Plan On Track Says Top General

General John Allen, the Commander of U.S. and NATO forces appearing before Congress, saying the United States’ mission in Afghanistan to keep the Taliban from toppling the Afghan government and deny al Qaeda safe havens remains on track.

FOX News Radio’s Courtney Kealy reports:

General John Allen saying 13 coalition forces were apparently killed by Aghan forces after an outcry over NATO forces mistakenly burned Korans and 16 Afghan civilians were killed allegedly by a U.S. Staff Sergeant Robert Bales.

(Allen) “Now each of these events is heart wrenching and my thoughts and my prayers go out to all of those affected by this violence.”

Allen is in the process of making decisions on the second phase of the troop surge.

(Allen) “But I assure you the relationship between the coalition and our Afghan security forces remains strong.”

He projects that by this October 1st, 68,000 U.S. forces will remain in Afghanistan alongside NATO and Afghan security forces.
