Mitt Romney Wins IL Primary, Santorum 2nd
Mitt Romney came away with a victory in the Illinois primary, leaving Rick Santorum to come in second, Ron Paul to finish in third and Newt Gingrich to end up in fourth.
After Santorum’s back-to-back wins last week in Alabama and Mississippi, the focus returns to the south. Louisiana hosts the next primary, this weekend.
FOX News Radio’s Jennifer Keiper reports from Chicago:
Mitt Romney leaves Illinois with 41 of the 54 delegates that were up for grabs.
In his victory speech, the former Massachusetts Governor took jabs at President Obama.
(Romney) ”This President is crushing the dream and the dreamers and I will make sure that finally ends.”
Rick Santorum, in 2nd place here.
(Santorum) “We have really low – no expectations of winning Illinois but we’re gonna come away with a lot of delegates which is going to keep us in the hunt.”
The former Pennsylvania Senator, who spent primary night in his home state, gains 10 Illinois delegates.
