Disaster Tourism: Titanic Theme Park Opening in Belfast

In time of 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster, the city responsible for one of the greatest ships ever built – which became one of the biggest, most well-known disasters in history - is hoping that the ill-fated Titanic’s tragedy will help bring it some tourist dollars.

FOX News Radio’s Alastair Wanklyn reports from our European bureau in London:

(Promotional Ad) “Belfast has to raise its head and take pride in the building of the ship.”

A promotion ad for Titanic Belfast, a new multi-million dollar attraction that tells the story of the world’s greatest luxury liner, and the ship-building industry at teh time of Titanic’s launch in Belfast in 1911.

Later, 1,500 people died, so some might joke it’s a bit like Ukraine building a Chernobyl theme park or Paris offering a Concorde crash experience.  But Belfast city officials, saying Titanic was no disaster.

(Official) “The ship itself was a feat of engineering.”

…What happened to it was tragic.
