Prescription Drugs… Coming Over the Counter?
It’s an idea in the early stages, but FDA regulators are considering a big change for some prescription drugs.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Stanley has the story:
Some of the most widely-used drugs that require a prescription could become available over-the-counter.
Food and Drug Administration officials saying they’re considering waiving prescription requirements for a range of drugs, including those to treat diabetes, asthma and migraine.
Computer technology driving this move, including touch-screen kiosks found in pharmacies, designed to help patients self-diagnose common diseases.
FDA regulators saying, making it easier to get certain medications could help with undertreated epidemics like diabetes, with an estimated seven million Americans not diagnosed.
And the agency predicts other benefits from decreasing doctor visits.
