Senate Rejects Amendment to Reverse Birth Control Policy

The Senate kills an attempt to overturn the Obama administration’s mandate that religiously affiliated organizations must cover contraception services regardless of their beliefs.

FOX News Radio White House Correspondent Mike Majchrowitz reports:

In a mostly party line 51-to-48 vote, the Senate rejected the amendment. California Democrat Barbara Boxer arguing it would give religious groups a veto over women’s health issues.

(Boxer) “All they have to do is say ‘Oh I am really sorry, we believe prayer is the answer’.”

But Louisiana Republican David Vitter argues what’s at stake are fundamental religious freedoms.

(Vitter) “This is a fundamental conscience issue. This is a freedom of religion issue.”

This vote is not likely the last time we will hear this issue. Republicans vow they’ll fight on.
