Judge Acquits AL “Honeymoon Killer” Without Defense Witnesses
An Alabama man, put on trial in his wife’s death here in the States after serving time in Australia, has been acquitted by the judge before the case ever went to the jury. Gabe Watson was accused of killing his wife on their honeymoon in Australia by cutting off her oxygen supply while diving off the coast.
FOX News Radio’s Jeff Monosso reports:
34-year-old Gabe Watson faced life in prison, accused of killing his newlywed wife, Tina Watson, during the couple’s honeymoon diving trip in Australia in 2003. But a federal judge rules that prosecutors failed to present enough evidence in the case, ending the two-week long trial in an acquittal.
Prosecutors claim Watson killed his wife for the insurance money, but the only eyewitness testified he thought Watson was trying to save his wife. Watson served 18 months in an Australian prison after pleading guilty there to a manslaughter charge involving negligence.
