Housecall for Health: Growing Brain Cells From Skin
Stem cell research is a controversial issue in the United States, but researchers abroad have found a way to collect stem cells from your skin to heal your brain.
FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig reports in today’s “Housecall for Health”:
In what the medical community is calling a “huge breakthrough,” researchers at Edinburgh’s Center for Regenerative Medicine in Scotland have successfully created brain tissue from skin. Scientists made stem cells out of skin samples from patients suffering mental illnesses, and were able to grow them into brain cells.
Experts hope that studying these cells will reveal clues about the brain and mental illness, and in the future possibly use the same method for other organs.
