Securing America: Giffords’ Border Bill

UPDATE: The Senate unanimously approved the bill Thursday evening.

On her last day in Congress, Gabrielle Giffords helps the House unanimously approve a border security bill she introduced.  So what does the legislation do?

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington in our ongoing series on national security:

(House Vote) “The yea’s are 408, the nay’s are 0.”

Handshakes, hugs and a few tears, as the House unanimously passed the Ultra-Light Aircraft Smuggling Prevention Act, a bill introduced by Giffords two-and-a-half years ago.

(Rep. Flake) “It will help.  It is needed on the border, to close this loophole.”

Arizona Republican Jeff Flake, touting the bill that puts new, tougher penalties on drug smugglers who use ultra-light aircraft to carry drugs across the Mexico-U.S. border.

The Senate is expected to pass the legislation today.
