Mayor Blasted for ‘Taco’ Comment About Latinos

    The Mayor of East Haven, Connecticut is being criticized for comments deemed as insensitive amid allegations of police discrimination against Hispanics in the community.

    East Haven’s Mayor Joseph Maturo’s office releasing a statement apologizing sincerely to the local community and especially the Latino community for insensitive and off-color remarks made to a local TV news reporter.

    He’s been facing scathing criticism from Connecticut officials, including the Governor, after Maturo quipped he “might have tacos” as a way to do something for the Hispanic community.

    The quip coming just a day after four police officers were arrested, accused of waging a campaign of discrimination against Latino residents and businesses.
