Pain: Who Feels It More, Men or Women? Study Says It’s…

When something hurts, it hurts and you feel the pain.  But who is more sensitive to pain, men or women?  The Journal of Pain has published a study that takes a look at that very question.

FOX News Radio’s Bill Vitka has those results:

When it comes to pain, women feel it more than men.  Be it a back problem, arthritis or a sinus infection, women appear to suffer more, according to the latest research from Stanford University.

In 21 of 22 ailments investigated – including diabetes, hypertension, ankle injuries and joint and inflammatory pain – women reported higher levels of pain.

What the data doesn’t tell us is why.  One possibility is that men have been socialized to be more stoic – they underreport pain.  But that alone does not account for the full scope of the gender gap.
